G & I saw "Spiderman 2" last night. Leopoldo was going to go with us, but due to a scheduling snafu, he went to a play with Eliza.

"Spiderman 2" was very good. I've heard that it's being called the "best comicbook adaptation film ever". That's hard for me to wrap my mouth around. It has some really noticable faults -- but it still might be true, nonetheless.

It's hard not to want to give spoilers on this one. I'm left thinking about it the next day (a good sign!). I actually spent my morning pages today writing a three page review.

One thing I can say: Doctor Octopus was superb. Every scene that had him in it, simply shone. The robotic tentacles were more convincing than I could have hoped. The actor was excellent both as a good guy and a bad -- largely because of his understated performance. [He reminded somewhat of the butcher from "Delicatessen", actually.] Spidey himself was fine and good -- but I found myself wondering, "when's Doc Ock going to be back on screen?"

Boo is feeling less sad. And for that, I am glad.

We went out for breakfast / lunch at Ole Ole yesterday (hi Carl!), which segued into a day out shopping... Frickin' Gap has quit carrying the socks I like. Grrrr. Recycled my spent printer ink cartridges, picked up an 18" clear plastic ruler that I've been wanting, looked at Andy & Bax for Burning Man goggles, stopped at Home Depot for a wall-mount hook for G's new bicycle.

...G's new bicycle! Wednesday, we went out a bit after 3:30 to a recycled bike shop (hey G -- what's the shop's name again?). G picked up a schnifty used bike for Burning Man, only $50. Possible name: Stella. [update: G says "the name of the bike shop is the "recyclery." new used bike shop/repair place since may on foster."]

I got my bike fixed while I was there -- for a ridiculously good price: $30. I had a bent gear that had to be replaced, and a royally kinked chain. I gave the fix a test ride around the block -- and my rear derailer actually snapped off! It's not their fault; I knew my bike was in bad shape. It's just hilarious that it actually happened while I was there. So they replaced that too, for no extra charge. The smallest rear gear is still missing a tooth... but they'd have to replace the whole rear gear assembly, so I decided to live with it.

I've had this bike since something like 1987. I remember walking it while hanging out with my first girlfriend.

Wednesday evening, G & I went to the stream-of-consciousness writing group at Palio for the second time. It was more comfortable this go around, and I was happier having brought my journal to write in. Writing on a yellow pad somehow makes the effort seem more disposable.

There was an amusing moment, where G wrote down that I was probably writing about feeling guilty about how to balance creative time for myself with other work that needs to get done. And she was right. ;-)

A good string of emails has arisen between Carl and myself. We're discussing how one would write a "Constitution of Friendship", and on a side thread, I'm beginning to prep him for an Aimee Mann concert he's going to in Seattle a couple of weeks from now.

G's going to be busy next week, so it looks like Leopoldo and I may go to the movies by ourselves. Movies I still want to see:
  • The Chronicles of Ridick -- my probable pick
  • I, Robot
  • The Stepford Wives
  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
  • The Day After Tomorrow (no longer in theaters?)
  • Hellboy (no longer in theaters)
  • Sky Captain (did the release date get pushed back?)
