vertiginous future
Today I've been experimenting with lulu.com -- a free print-on-demand self-publishing service.
I'm agog. I could go to Pioneer Courthouse Square with my laptop in the morning; hook into one of the free wireless networks there; hack out a few essays; send them through the lulu process; and be selling a ISBN-coded, perfect-bound softcover book via amazon.com by dinnertime.
Truly dizzying, this vertiginous future.
In fact, as an experiment, I created a book today, and should receive a copy in about ten days. Including shipping: $7.85.
At the end of August, I wrote four essays in six days. When I formatted them to 6"x9" this afternoon, I had 69 pages. They've scarcely been edited, so I'm not putting them on sale or getting an ISBN number -- this is just a test of the lulu.com system, so I can get a visceral sense of what I can make. Even so: right now, a book called "Blueprint for Revolution: A Toolbox for Youth Liberation Activists" is moving through the publishing process. Eeeeeeeeeeee!
