On a day when I meant to do little, I wound up doing more than I intended.
Woke up with an inspiration for how NYRA could raise the $50,000 they need within two months: credit cards. Ten people lending $5000, or 25 people lending $2000, could raise the front money for an benefit concert that they expect will bring in $150,000. Risky, but I'm pleased with myself for coming up with a strategy that's even plausible. Would've said it's impossible, frankly.
So, having slept in til noonish, I wrote that email. Then I went out on some vital errands. Deposit a check at the bank, mail off a bill at the post office, drop off some event tickets at PWCL... then lite shopping at Music Millenium and Best Buy.
Curses on Best Buy. That's where I've been buying most of my DVDs. They recently instituted a reward card system. ...And sure enough, the prices have gone up. X-Files is a good indicator when you shop around. The best price you can find is $99. Well, "Best Buy" is asking $126 now. Feh. At least I can still count on Freddy's for good prices on the big ticket items.
Went to see "Lost in Translation" with G & Phillip yesterday. Excellent film, as mph had said it would be.
The day before, Wednesday, I got some cleaning done. G came over to help. The big accomplishment: she got iTunes working again. How much do I love G? A googleplex supernovas eating pop rox in a volcano. ...Yeah!
So to celebrate, we crazy danced to "yer mom's alright" by TMBG on the germ mix. (I really ought to burn that mix soon.)
Going to be getting up early tomorrow to finish cleaning, in prep for my November movie party: "Soylent Green" and "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, & Her Lover". J will probably only stay for the first, G will arrive from the "Process" art show discussion in time for the second, and Carl + Andrew may show up sometime after dinner (if the party's still going). Leopoldo, mph, and Neinmeyer (sp?) are my solids. [Note to self: next month, how about "Hedwig" and "Velvet Goldmine", a combo that E suggested?]
Damn. Burton & Sue invited me to a dinner. Why haven't I responded yet??
Anyway, the reason I say that I did more than I intended to today... Yesterday after the movie, I had to take a nap on the floor in G's art room. Too little sleep and a heavy Taco Del Mar burrito made me exhausted and whacked my mood. At least I was coherent enough to recognize my own state and make a decision about what to do about it. The nap did me good; but in the course of dozing around inside my head, I realized that I've reached the point where I'm feeling alienated from my house, avoidant because I'm no longer sure exactly what's getting neglected. So I hatched a plan: don't just leap into cleaning -- instead, do nothing... re-bond with home.
Things were leisurely today, so I feel like I got a little down time. But I still would have liked to have gone for a walk... fiddled with my blog template... typed in a poem that I wrote a while back... sat and stared at the ceiling longer.
Monday I've got a board meeting. Meant to have my handouts ready farther in advance; still need to put some things together about the 2004 first quarter fundraising plan. Tuesday night G and I are talking about trying to see the Leonids (meteor showers). Might have to do some driving to find clear sky. Tuesday day, presumably I've got chatty chair / "Munchkin" time with J. Meeting Adam Fletcher from freechild.org on Friday. Still need to respond to him, to say exactly where we should meet up.
Things G and I have been talking about doing: the Shanghai Tunnels; an investigatory visit to Kinko's; a leaf-shuffling walk at Laurelhurst park; making use of the leaves we collected downtown; a meal at the new restaurant on Hawthorne that J took me to; a visit to Scrap (before it changes location).
Longer-range things. Turns out that J is in fact going to California for Thanksgiving. That means that unless I get some kind of crazy inspiration to host something at my place, I'm probably tagging along with G. Looks like J is definitely going to SLC for Xmas and New Year's. [She told me previously, but I'd forgotten whether or not the plan was firm.] I really, really need to talk to the folks organizing New Year's at the coast, to see where I stand with them. Especially if I want to make a pitch to G to come along.
Bah. To bed with me.
