New Year's was spent at the coast with gl. and a horde of folks somehow associated with the Seattle amoeba monster. Twenty two of us all together. Arrived on New Year's eve; Leopoldo drove the three of us, and we opened the house. He made a taco casserole (which fed gl. and I on and off for the rest of the stay), and gl. made a kick-ass salad with a lime-oil-garlic dressing of her own invention. I helped.
We got back into Portland Sunday afternoon. Monday (I think) we got a massive snow storm. "The 2004 ice storm", yo. I've been stuck here at the butte for -- what? -- three days now? And I'm going crazy with yearning. If we're going to speak in round numbers, that was a six hour iChat / phone conversation last night. ...And as we predicted not too long after the beginning, we've wound up speaking in nothing but poetry. Woof, woof! (cough, cough)
Did a thing yesterday that gl. sez I should note: invented "orange boiled eggs". Experiment # 1: microwave an egg in a glass of OJ for 2 min. Experiment #2: stir egg and OJ together in a bowl with lid, microwave for 1.5 min. ...Interesting. Microwave does the eggs no favors, but there's potential. Needs other tropical flavors to compliment it, though -- coconut, I think would give it a nifty creamy flavor.
I put up xmas lights in my bedroom on Tuesday. Finally managed to get J over to put up glow-in-the-dark stars, too. This is way cooler than it sounds -- I put up hooks to hold the wires in place, rather than using tape or tacks. And I used a white cord to disguise the lead up the wall. And -- best of all -- I've got a remote light switch, so I can turn it all from my bed. Go me!
