G has been gone for all of about ten minutes.

...I miss heeerrrrrr!

[As I am typing this, J calls. She heard the door close, then heard me play piano, and figured it out.]

G will be at NorWesCon til Sunday. In the meantime, I can continue working on cleaning the house so she can get moved in.

Yesterday was our eight month anniversary. I treated her to lunch at a pho place next to PSU. At last, I was able to have vegetarian pho! Been craving it, and it seems like most places only have the beef broth...

Also brought over the first full-fledged Svan load from the apartment yesterday. My guess, is that there will only be about four loads, total. I could be wrong...

Last night I was feeling kind of down, so we watched a robot movie to cheer me up: Tobor the Great. Oh, it was fun! This is an old black and white film, pre- space flight. Everyone's smoking -- and the scientists smoke pipes! It had everything -- the single female character (everyone shout "love interest!"), the "golly-gee-williker" boy, the "this man has no neck" voice-over at the beginning, Soviet spies (whose secret weapon is a ladder), a robot that can pilot a spaceship -- but crashes through doors without using the doorknob...

OK, here's my robot observation of the day:

Tobor didn't speak. Gigantor also doesn't speak. It leads me to wonder: was there a turning point when robots on film started having voices? It's really kind of strange now, to see a robot that doesn't talk... How prevalent was the silent robot in the days of black and white? Must do more research. :-)
