Exciting movie work to do today: putting together the first no-sfx rough cut, to see how it flows.
[I find it interesting that sometime during the late nineties the term "special effects" (sfx) seems to have fallen out of use, being replaced with "visual effects". I suppose movies like Ep I, where every shot's been modified, take "special" out of the equation. ...Ah, usage.]
Yesterday I finally got done with selecting which takes I'm going to use, and trimming the footage. ...And I finished listening to the Beatles. That pretty much leaves XTC and Ani DiFranco as my last major ouvres to go through. Minor ouvres to still hit: Garbage, Soul Coughing, Bjork.
If all goes well, this is my main assembly week. I'll get the timing of all the shots worked out, apply the lavaman process (which, unfortunately, can't be automated), see how things look.
The main worries on my mind at this point: What if there are continuity problems? What if I have to pick up another few shots -- would my actors stand for it? Is there any way to make due with the alternate takes?
...And am I going to run into any snags when I model the final version of the cave? Will animating the critters take longer than I've imagined?
Put in 6.5 hours on movie work yesterday, 1.5 short of my goal. Had bill paying and journaling that needed to be done, too.
Looks like G's going to be gone a lot this week. Leopoldo tonight, Michael (for Jackie Chan!) on Friday, and helping Brian "Manburka" move on Saturday. I'll be getting out of the house Thursday for our first "Dark Angel" viewing (at Leopoldo's now), and up to the top of 735 St. Clair for July 4th (Sunday).
And that's pretty much my life.
Oh. And I still have to get a birthday present for my bro. ...Dammit.
