Well, you can tell I'm writing my morning pages again because you've gotten three planet sven posts on three consecutive days. The blog works out well, it turns out, as a subsidiary endeavor. Go straight from the personal journal into writing the public one.
House news... The landlord dropped by yesterday. He told us that the carpet shampooing people will do their thing today, so we can take control of the studio Sunday, as planned. Saturday, even, if we want -- though I suspect the carpet will still be a bit damp at that point.
Landlord guy brought up pesticiding the lawn again, at which G & I hemmed and hawed. He picked up on the cue and backed off. We explained that we're thinking garden back there -- so he's going to hire a weeding service. Now here's the truly excellent part: we mentioned that we'd really like to have stairs off the back porch, and without blinking he offered to put them in. Yay!!
In a strange occurance of synergy, that evening a neighborhood kid came by and offered to weed the yard, as part of her efforts to raise money for going to church camp. I said sure, and at it she went. She was completely underselling herself -- offering to do the front yard for $7. I told her it was too low, and that I'd give her $10 for just the back yard. [I'm guessing that when she's done I'll probably bump that up to twenty, since it's going to take longer than she thinks.] I'm impressed: she's pulling everything out by the roots, and was identifying what the different plants were to us. If this works out, we might give her regular work -- better yet, maybe get landlord guy to pay her...
Significant news for G: no Maggie work at PSU this month. She's bummed out -- but it will be nice to have more summer freedom together. Unfortunately, of course, June is my heavy month for working on the Lovecraft film. I'm going to try to draw up a rough production schedule so she can cheer me on and do her own activities in parallel. She's always talking about how she wants to work on her calligraphic letter forms. The idea of the two of us working in the studio on our separate art projects together is really sweet.
We went on a walk together on the Springwater Corridor Trail yesterday. We headed west for the first time, turning back around at 122nd. Now, that's only 18 blocks from us (at least on the east-west axis), but it took an hour and a half to walk. ...I gotta say, as far as living in the suburbs goes, we've got it pretty good.
Oh yeah, I would be remiss if I didn't mention: mad scientist me came up with the coolest invention yesterday. The shower stall needed a good scrubbing (we've got the hardest water out here!) -- so I attached a sponge to a piece of wood, put a bolt through the wood, and behold! -- a spongy new drill bit for my power tool. (Heh heh...) Works great. Photographic evidence to follow soon...
