My best guess: Salmonella.
I finally made the phone call this morning, and have a doctor's appointment for this afternoon. If what I'm reading now is right, though, it may be a wasted visit. All the probable bacteria tend to clear up within seven days. Today being day #7 since the start of this, I wonder if I ought not have waited one more day.
I'm still getting the hang of using the interweb for getting medical info. I did research yesterday about what could cause these symptoms; but it took me til today to realize that I could research the specifics of each candidate bacteria...
No vomiting; that pretty much eliminates a viral cause. Prime candidates: campylobacter, salmonella, shigella, e. coli. No blood; that makes shigella and e. coli less likely. Vegetarian; another strike against e. coli. Food, in general, is a problematic cause -- since G and I eat pretty much the same things at each meal. Campylobacter takes 2-5 days to show up; this seemed like a rather violent onset. Salmonella takes 12 - 72 hours. I recall feeling spacy at 9pm Monday night, and hoping that it was dehydration rather than a cold -- that suggests that it wasn't anything I'd et after 9pm. Salmonella can be transmitted by pets that have diarrhea -- which would be Amelia. What's more, I cleaned up after her that morning. However, transmission may not have necessarily occured just then; she may have had traces of something on her when I petted her at some other point.
Suck.
