Fortunately, I've done a fair amount of xmas shopping in advance this year. Yesterday was my first real day of full-on shopping activity. It displaced what would, according to template, normally be a reading-at-PSU day. Oh well; holiday cheer will be acknowledged. Or else.

Went to see the movie "Kinsey" with G last night. It's a based-on-real-events drama about the life of seminal (pun intended) sexologist Alfred Kinsey, starring Liam Neeson.

Walked out feeling that production of this movie was politically motivated to counter the Bush constituency's abstinence-only and anti-evolution leanings. I wouldn't say that it was "heavy-handed" per se, but it was blunt rather than subtle at times in delivering its speaking points. As a polemic, I'd say it did a pretty darned good job. As cinema, it was in the good (neither great nor merely mediocre) range.

Curiously, I find myself still thinking about it the next day -- no particular scene in mind, though. That, actually, is probably a good recommendation for it.

And, all-in-all, I have to admit that it did a pretty good job of handling sexual minority issues (homosexuality, bisexuality, polyamory... not much in terms of SM, though). ...My professional interest (and pride), having been an activist on this stuff, is probably muting what should be a more glowing review.

Oh -- but if you didn't know who Alfred Kinsey was before reading this post -- then for god's sake, definitely go. Important history here, folks.
