The first ever "Stumptown Comics Fest" was interesting. It didn't thrill and amaze, but I'd probably go again a year from now. Gave money to local comix artists and zinesters... Mightily impressed by the work of Erika Moen. Simple, beautiful, moving. It's still chewing on my brain this morning, and may be for a while yet...
G & I took our first serious look around the studio space. I'd been imagining we'd be in one room, working in parallel, "anti-social social time". She suggests, though, that I take J's former bedroom as my personal work space. Practically speaking, she doesn't necessarily want to listen to music quite the way I do... And I can make as much creative mess as I want. (Damn. That's a compelling argument.)
Still haven't decided where her calligraphy table will go; perhaps next to the kitchen, perhaps in the livingroom proper -- though we've been thinking that should be kept open for Artist's Way meetings. The former office room (here) is also a possibility, though it would be awful nice to have all art stuff in the studio. [Oh yeah -- I guess there's an added benefit if we can share art supplies.]
J's coming over tonight. We'll get the final load or so out of the garage. And we'll take down the mezzuzah. Little details like the mailbox key, and a stray recycling bin will be taken care of. Probably not much of a social night, really.
The one irk regarding the studio: landlord guy didn't do any repainting of the walls. It doesn't look like he did anything really, after the carpet shampooer came through. Bah. I don't want to bother with getting him to paint over the scratched bits -- I want our studio now! Suppose I'll wind up calling him today. Not sure how I want to phrase the disgruntlement...
Read G the first two chapters of "Prisoner of Azkaban" last night. She really dislikes the bits about the Dursleys -- would skip them in all future books, perhaps. Hm. Seems like a surprising number of children's "classics" include child abuse at their beginnings. "James and the Giant Peach" and Cinderella come to mind. Maybe I'm just imagining it.
